  • Sleeved Eccentric for Rotary Piston Pump

Eccentrics for rotary-piston mechanical pumps can be sleeved to restore sizes and finishes on bearing surfaces. MHV makes sleeves from engine cylinder sleeve material, which resists wear better than pearlitic gray iron. MHV finish grinds bearing surfaces after sleeving. There is an oil groove under the sleeve for lubrication. The small ring shown is for repairing wear at the end of the eccentric, around the hole (where the main shaft goes through the eccentric). The eccentric in this picture (for a Stokes 212 or 412 pump) fits inside the piston-slide shown below.

  • Sleeved Piston-slide for Rotary Piston Pump

As with the eccentric above, piston-slides can be sleeved to restore diameter and finish on the bearing surfaces. This picture shows the sleeve installed in one end of the piston-slide. The sleeves are shrink-fit, and no set screws are used. MHV has remanufactured hundreds of piston-slides using this method, and they have accumulated tens of thousands of hours of reliable operation. The sleeves are bored after intallation, for proper size and surface finish. Also, piston slide tangs can be ground to restore finish. (The tang is the flat portion protruding from the cylindrical portion of the piston-slide.) When the tang is ground, the mating hinge bars must be replaced with thicker ones to make up for the metal removed from the tang.

  • Ground Eccentric

Eccentrics for some rotary-piston mechanical pumps are not sleeved, because there is so little metal between the outside diameter and the hole for the main shaft. (The eccentric in this picture fits a Kinney pump.) Instead, the two bearing diameters of each eccentric are ground to restore the surface finish, then the mating diameters in the piston-slide are sleeved with a smaller inside diameter, to match the eccentric.

  • Hinge Bar Bores

When the hinge bar bore in your rotary piston pump becomes scored, MHV can line-bore the block to restore the proper surface finish (63 rms, or better). Taper is held to .001" or less. Also, MHV's special fixturing eliminates chatter and keeps the bore in the factory location. New hinge bars (Stokes) or slide-pins (Kinney) are supplied to fit the new larger bore.
